Ground Standoff Mine Detection System (GSTAMIDS) Common Robotic Kit

Under Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) funding provided by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, General Dynamics Robotic Systems (GDRS) developed, installed, and tested its Common Robotics Kit system to enable large mine detection vehicles to be teleoperated remotely by Soldiers tasked with detecting and destroying land mines.

The common robotic kit developed by the CTA IDIQ program was deployed for initial Soldier training and testing in Iraq in late 2003. A second rotation in Operation Iraqi Freedom was trained in July/August 2004.

Two echelons of GSTAMIDs Meerkat Mine Detection and Buffalo Command vehicles equipped with the Common Robotics Kit were trained at a facility outside Baghdad in 2003. Soldiers were able to remotely control the mine detection and collection vehicles from a safe distance.
