Robotic
Capabilities - LADAR
For unmanned systems to navigate effectively
in any environment they must be able to perceive
and understand the obstacles around them. General
Dynamics Robotic Systems (GDRS) is rapidly advancing
Laser Radar (LADAR) technology in support of
our vision of robots as co-combatants.
Designed to detect hazards and facilitate safe
operations, LADAR features 3D terrain estimation
for medium- and close-range obstacle detection.
LADAR also supports 360-degree situational awareness
around the entire vehicle for personnel safeguarding. At
GDRS we are developing LADAR systems that are
smaller, lighter, faster, and more accurate to
enable instant identification of surrounding
terrain, obstacles, unauthorized objects and
human presence.
One of the key components of the Future Combat
System’s Autonomous Navigation System, GDRS
LADAR technology supports autonomous mobility for
both manned and unmanned vehicles. We are also
testing ways to enhance the reconnaissance capabilities
of small unmanned air vehicles using our LADAR
technology. |
